Given only the prompt “Displacement,” our team focused on the emotional strain caused by separation in parent–child and romantic relationships. We developed Comfort Creatures: weighted plush companions that combine tactile comfort with a unique communication system. Acting like a blend between a two-way radio and voicemail, the electronics allow users to send each other recorded voice messages, which the plush cycles through and automatically updates. Unlike other toys with fixed pre-recorded lines, these creatures create an evolving, personal dialogue between users. Research into color psychology and weighted therapy informed design choices, ensuring the plush provides peak comfort and reassurance for children while serving as a meaningful, emotionally supportive link between loved ones
